An old coal tub from the
Dobson Mine is now a decorative planter at the side of the highway as it passed through the small community of Dobson. The population of the town and surrounding area is only a bit above 600. The town was named after surveyor George Dobson, who was killed (1866) in a bungled robbery by a gang mistaking him for a gold buyer carrying gold from the nearby Arnold goldfield. I guess every country has had it's Wild West.
