A Wichita newspaper article (8/23/35) states, "Pictured above is the new utility building at Linwood Park which is being completed just before KERC (KS Emergency Relief Committee) gives way to WPA...park board engineers are now busy on WPA projects". Apparently, the project was funded as a work relief project to employ the homeless. A 1954 report states the building was originally used as a barn for department work horses but since the 60's the building housed an equipment maintenance shop and tool storage area.
